Method
Place the blackberries, honey, chopped nuts, oats, milk, and almond extract into a jar and stir until thoroughly combined.
Secure the lid on the jar and place it in the refrigerator at 4°C (39°F) overnight to allow the oats to soften.
Remove from the refrigerator and serve cold, adding more nuts on top if desired.
Chef's Notes
- For a richer flavor, consider using whole milk or a blend of milk and cream. The fat content will contribute to a creamier texture.
- If using fresh blackberries, gently fold them in just before serving to prevent them from breaking down too much during the chilling process.
- Toasting the almonds beforehand will enhance their flavor and add a delightful crunch to the finished crumble. Let them cool completely before chopping.
- Adjust the honey to your preferred sweetness level. You can also add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for added warmth and spice.
Storage
Refrigerator: 2 days — Keep sealed in the jar.
Troubleshooting
Oats are too dry or thick
Cause: Oats absorbed more liquid than expected
Fix: Stir in a small amount of extra milk before serving
Prevention: Measure the milk and oats accurately
